January 28-30
Well I'd rather not tell this story, (and every person we know randomly called to find out where we were had me repeating it over and over and over. so here goes.
After a day in Titusville showering, shopping and refueling, we got up and headed south to the promise of a beautiful day. We passed under the Titusville swing bridge and were in a wide channel wit sails up, sun warming the day and feeling great. I (Cindy) was at the tiller yaking away with a red marker on my right and a sailboat ahead of us.
All at once a GREEN marker appeared in front of me feet away from the bow, and bam. I hit it head on. OMG. We glanced off and Michael went up front to survey the damage, both of us sick to our stomachs. How could I do such a thing???
A side of the bow spit was ripped off and the metal track for the starboard side anchor went with it.
After the shock settles down (Michael was unbelievably kind about the whole event), he decided the best idea would be to turn around and go back to Titusville and get a berth at the Municipal Marina. We rented a car and drove back to St. Augustine, picked up mahogany, he remade the damaged piece, cut stainless steel and had it welded and we were back at the boat 24 hours later! Michael on a mission is something to behold. as of now all the damaged wood is removed and he is fitting and preparing the new pieces to be installed.
We have paid for a week at the marina, and will stay to do some odds and ends on the boat, but whether we stick around for a week is up in the air. Its a nice area to be. Walking distance to a grocery store and the old downtown, and great public transportation. Plus, its warm.
